Joan Cosby joined Rick Goldring's financial planning practice at Assante Financial Management Ltd. in the fall of 2003 with the intention of becoming an Advisor on his team. She wisely chose to work on a team with experience and integrity, with an Advisor more interested in helping his clients protect the financial well-being of their loved ones than the profit he was earning.
She came with a varied mix of education and experience. After graduating with an Honours Diploma in Business Administration from Mohawk, Joan joined a large accounting firm in their small business unit which is where she first started providing Consulting/Bookkeeping and Personal Tax planning services. Her interest in people led her to the Ontario March of Dimes in Community Outreach, a team that supports individuals to live independently in their own homes. The 1998 Hurricane Season provided Joan the chance of a lifetime - to follow a lifelong dream. She willingly accepted a full-time position at CRWRC - the International Relief and Development Arm of her childhood church. "The experience as a key person on a dynamically well led International Disaster Relief Team provided her with the opportunity to see firsthand the significant positive outcomes that arose from her contribution to timely, comprehensive, strategic planning on various projects responding to those in need in some very terrible situations."
Although the scope of her role now as a Certified Financial Planner practitioner is a little narrower, the importance of the work is still very significant to individuals actively engaged in their life and legacy planning. Planning for and dealing with major life events are challenging when they touch your family and yourself. She does not shy away from those tough issues.
